In 2006, Hanna Havrylets composed this Marian song for four voices. The text goes back to the most important Ukrainian lyricist, Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861). With this first Ukrainian edition in our publishing house, we would like to pause and say farewell to the composer, whose biography is tragically linked to the attack of Russian troops on her homeland. Due to a serious illness, Havrylets was dependent on acute medical care, which came to an abrupt end on 24 February 2022 – Havrylets died only three days later.

    All-Night Vigil

    op. 37
    Scoring: Soli | Choir (SATB)

In the roughly thousand-year history of Russian church music, which came to an abrupt, almost violent end with the October Revolution of 1917, Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil (The Great Morning and Evening Praise), Op. 37 is generally regarded as the crowning achievement. In the West, the All-Night Vigil, like Rachmaninoff's operas and songs, remains overshadowed by his piano and orchestral works due to the language barrier. The present edition may contribute to the discovery of the vocal composer Rachmaninoff.

In 1999 Hanna Havrylets received the Taras Shevchenko Prize, which is considered Ukraine's highest prize for art and culture. She has been Ukraine's Merited Artist since 2005. The composer gained particular fame with her choral works, including Prayer to the Virgin Mary. In these works in particular, she works with her typically Ukrainian tonal language, which she herself described as „the only stimulus for her creativity“.

Carol of the Bells is certainly familiar to many. But do you also know Shdchedryk – the Ukrainian original by Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921)? In 1916, he composed this Ukrainian folk song, which in its original form, however, is not sung exclusively as a Christmas carol, but mainly at the Old New Year. There are countless interpretations and versions of this song, here you get the original version for four-part choir.

The text of this Tyrolean Christmas carol goes back to Anton Reidinger. It was first published in 1884 in the Kripplgsangl und Kripplspiel with a second part added by Reidinger. The melody is taken from the Marian song Maria zu lieben, ist allzeit mein Sinn. Our edition is based on the four-part setting with accompaniment of flute, clarinets, violins, cello and bass, published in 1913 by Franz Friedrich Kohl and Josef Reiter in the new edition of the collection Echte Tiroler Lieder. For the present edition, we have opted for a transcription in Middle Bavarian with South Bavarian influences.

    Robert Schumann
    Liederkreis Deutsch
    op. 39

This ipipapa edition is based on the new edition of the Liederkreis, op. 39, authorised by Schumann and published by Friedrich Whistling in Leipzig in 1850. This revised version, with a total of twelve songs, was preceded by an earlier printing in 1842 in Vienna by Tobias Haslinger, after Robert Schumann had composed the pieces in 1840 – his song year.

    Franz Schubert
    Winterreise Deutsch
    D 911

The Winterreise D 911 is probably the most well-known work by Franz Schubert and the most frequently performed song cycle for voice and piano. It was composed in 1827, only one year before Schubert’s death. Like in his first song cycle Die schöne Müllerin (1823), the lyrics are poems by Wilhelm Müller (1794–1827), who lived in Dessau (Saxony-Anhalt).
